Girls in Gear is focused on supporting our Girl Scouts and youth in Central Indiana by learning about the automotive space through our comprehensive activities to support the Automotive Engineering badges, as well as current automotive industry practices. We provide hands-on experiences and real-world insights into the diverse career paths available in automotive design, engineering, and manufacturing.

Automotive Design

There are so many different aspects of the automotive industry! By enhancing interactions through intuitive features and interfaces, we encourage girls to interpret different kinds of design components.

We believe that understanding how cars are conceived, from initial sketches to 3D models and beyond, is crucial for fostering innovation and creativity. As we showcase the diverse roles involved – from stylists and engineers to user experience experts – we aim to inspire the next generation of female automotive designers and engineers, encouraging them to shape the future of transportation with their unique perspectives.

Automotive Engineering

At the STEM Experience Center, we believe understanding the mechanics, electronics, and materials science behind cars is essential for building a diverse and innovative future for the automotive industry. By exploring concepts like engine function, aerodynamics, safety systems, and sustainable technologies, we aim to inspire the next generation of female engineers to design, build, and improve the cars of tomorrow, tackling challenges like fuel efficiency, emissions, and more!

Automotive Manufacturing

We aim to inspire the next generation of female manufacturing professionals, empowering them to pursue fulfilling careers and contribute to the evolution of the automotive industry. By partnering with leading automotive companies, we provide girls with real-world insights into the processes and technologies used to bring cars from concept to reality. From robotics and automation to supply chain management and quality control, our goal is to highlight the diverse STEM skills needed to build the vehicles of today and tomorrow.

Driving Change

In addition to offering world-class automotive education programs, Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is taking strides to help close the gender gap in motorsports careers. In October 11, 2024, we launched a collaboration with Sim4STEM, a leading program combining STEM activities with sim racing! After all, Indianapolis, known for its racing heritage, is the ideal location to inspire girls to explore motorsports careers. With this innovative program that addresses everything from tire pressure to speeding up on laps made on one of four permanent racing simulators, we’re ready for Girl Scouts to start their engines!
